BE YOUR SELF YEAH?
Apart from my mother commenting on the clothes I wear, I have been told that I have a unique style along with this other chick who has some rather interesting tastes; either you love them or you hate them, she always pulls them off. You then think about how we have a different look, because of the clothes we wear, the way we do our hair and make-up. When we are actually the ones with homes swarming full of fashion magazines from: Harpers Bazaar, Vogue, Nylon and various other fashion magazines. Now think how we're choosing our own fashion pathways rather then taking a route which has been set out. It's because in these magazines we're not told what we should wear because it's in, we're told about the styles which will be in the stores in months to come because these designers make all that is in, in stores like top-shop, river island and new look. We're shown different styles from the past, e.g.. Nylon April '10 mentions the clothes Amy wears in Honey I Shrunk The Kids. These magazines are also telling us about new designers which read the same way we do now and how they interpreted it to an 'aboriginal to run dmc to samurai' (hemistone clothing). The magazines are showing us to look out and not just follow the trends because there is so much unseen talent out there, they're not telling us to wear that your hair like that, they're giving you a chance to see different ways. Which is a different to your 'Look' and 'Now' magazines where the fashion pages are telling you wear this it's hot, every one else is wearing it, it's in. They're not giving you a change to be different and breath while being fresh in your clothes; they're showing what's in the high-street but not the funky different things they sell, because these magazines- to steal a quote- "are not risking it for the biscuit." With the in-clothes you can have confidence because you feel you're getting it right, but being daring and showing you have some guts while wearing your confidence is much more appealing. You're a trend-setter not a follower, the two things which are very alike which I have learnt from my favorite fashion magazine- Nylon, is: @it's sticking to what suits you best makes you iconic, not hiding behind a mask" (written in the article 'just peaches' by 'Peaches Geldolf' talking about the different styles of make-up from the past from Boy George - Twiggy- Dita Von Teese - her ex Marilyn Manson, saying they may be your icon but being your self is iconic and the other in the Nylon Diary Vol. 52 from a promotion box for Customized Girl wrote: "say what you want, be creative and ALWAYS be yourself."
